Week of 1/9-1/13 Welcome Back! On 1/5 & 1/6 We will be refreshing our procedures & routines. These two days we will be setting up our testing practice folders based on case 21 data to prepare for our next case 21 & as a folder to help prepare for end of the year state test.

Starting the next full week we will start our unit over fractions. Students will learn how to find equivalent (equal) fractions & then compare fractions with unlike denominators. We will start learning vocabulary about what a fraction actually is (part of a whole). Then we will work on various strategies about finding equal fractions that may or may not have like denominators.

- A newsletter was sent home on Monday 1/9 about what we are doing in math class for the week. (please look for these each Monday)

- ELA I-Ready diagnostic test will be 1/12

- Math I-Ready diagnostic test will be 1/18

- Class picture day 1/26

Week of 12th-16th This week we are finishing up our area & perimeter unit. We are reviewing & will take our last quiz for this semester on Wednesday (12/14).

Christmas parties are Thursday 12/15

Last day before break will be Friday 12/16

Week of  December 5th-9th This week we are starting our unit over area & perimeter. Students will be asked to find the area & perimeter of shapes based on their length & width. They will be asked to find missing dimensions based on the formula for each.

Area= Length x Width

Perimeter= Side + Side + Side (based on how many sides the shape has)

English Case 21 Tuesday Dec. 6th

Math Case 21 Thursday Dec. 8th

Week of  November 28th- December 2nd This week we are reviewing patterns & multi-step word problems. We discussed this before Thanksgiving Break. Patterns may give a specific rule to follow or may ask you to state the rule based on the pattern. Multi-step word problems will require students to use more than one operation to solve the problem.

Test Friday

**Field trip Thursday

**12 days of Christmas days came home on Monday

Thanksgiving Break November 21st- November 25th (No School)

Week of November 14th- November 18th This week we are starting a new skill over number & shape patterns (4.OA.5). Students will see a pattern that is being created & be asked to give the rule of the pattern. (Ex. 2,5,8,11 the rule to continue is to add 3).

Thanksgiving holiday week of November 21st-25th. Enjoy your time with your family!

Week of November 7- November 11th This week we are wrapping up our division unit. We will also include going over factors & multiples. The two strategies for division are partial quotients (Big 7) & the area model. Factors include what times what gives me this number (Ex: factors of 6 include: 1,2,3,6). Multiples are referred to as skip counting (Ex: Multiples of 6 include: 6,12,18,24,30).

Math Test Friday 11/11/2022

Week of October 31- November 4th: This week we are continuing with division. We will still focus on using the area model strategy & introduce students to partial quotients (big 7). Students will also be taking a multiplication fact drill on Thursday.

Division quiz: Friday 11/4

Case 21 writing test: Tuesday 11/1

Honor Roll Recognition: Wednesday 11/2 at 8:45

Jersey day $1 on Thursday 11/3

Week of October 24th-28th: This week we are starting on our division unit (Topic 5). Students will start by learning the various definitions that make up a division equation (dividend, divisor, quotient, remainder).
We will go over the correlation between multiplication & division. We will finish the week solving division problems using the area model.

(Ex: 542 / 3)

Monday: ELA reward party for 5's & 4's on last years state test

Thursday: Math reward party for 5's & 4's on last years state test

This week is red ribbon week, make sure to refer to flyer sent home last week.

Week of October 17th- 21st: This week we will be continuing learning how to multiply 2-digit by 2-digit whole numbers using the area model.

Quiz: Wednesday 10/19

Test: Friday 10/21

**Red ribbon week is next week

Week of October 11th- 14th: This week we are covering 2- digit by 2-digit multiplication using the area model.

(Ex: 23 x 47)

Our strategy will be to utilize the area model when solving multiplication problems.

Report cards will be sent home on Thursday.

Week of October 3rd- 7th: 9 weeks test week (ELA Tuesday & Math Wednesday)

This week we are focusing on preparing for 9 weeks test. This test will cover all skills that were taught this 1st 9 weeks. After testing, Thursday & Friday we will start reviewing multiplication & begin multiplication with 4 digits by 2 digits.

(Ex: 1,342 x 77)

Reminders:

Fundraiser going on this week

Out of school Monday 10/10

Homecoming week next week (dress up days)

Week of September 26- 30: Review Week for 1st 9 weeks.

Students will be required to take a 9 weeks test next week on 10/5 in Math. This will cover all topics that we have covered throughout the 1st 9 weeks.

Topics for review this week:

Monday: Value of a digit

Tuesday: Comparing numbers

Wednesday: Rounding numbers

Thursday: Adding whole numbers with regrouping

Friday: Subtracting whole numbers with borrowing

Week of September 19-23:This week we are still focusing on 4.NBT.5. Our main focus this week will be to utilize the area model strategy when multiplying multi-digit numbers. Students will be asked to take a model that is already filled in & determine the missing pieces. Students will have to be able to fill out an area model & multiply problems with up to 4 digits by 1 digit.

Study guide was sent home Monday (Test Friday).

Week of September 12-16 : This week our standard in math is 4.NBT.5. This means that students will be able to multiply a whole number up to 4 digits by a 1-digit number. (Example: 1,234 x 5). The strategies that we will focus on will be partial products & area model. Please make sure that students are studying their notes each night & reworking the examples in their notebooks.
